Privacy Policy

MyFluentFox is a reading companion for language learners. This Privacy Policy explains how MyFluentFox ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the MyFluentFox website and learning service (the "Service").

1. Information We Collect

The information we collect depends on how you use the Service.

Account Information

Account registration and sign-in are handled through Microsoft Entra External ID. We may receive account details needed to identify and support your account, including:

  • Email address, display name, authentication identifiers, and sign-in status.
  • Reading language, help language, learner level, and enrolled learning languages.

Waitlist Information

Before account access is open to everyone, you may choose to join the launch waitlist. We collect the email address you provide, consent version, submission time, and limited technical metadata used to prevent abuse and operate the waitlist. Joining the waitlist does not create a MyFluentFox account.

Reading, Vocabulary, and Progress Data

We store learning activity so the Service can show progress, resume readings, and keep vocabulary in sync:

  • Reading activity: generated readings, opened readings, completion status, recent readings, reading language, level, topic, word count, and timestamps.
  • Vocabulary activity: saved words and phrases, known words, translations, explanations, source reading references, and dates saved or marked known.
  • Word and phrase selections: selected text and surrounding reading context used to provide help.

AI Reading and Word Help Data

When you generate a reading, ask for word or phrase help, or use Translate again, we process the relevant topic, selected text, reading context, target language, help language, learner level, and any rejected translation or explanation needed to produce a corrected answer. This information may be sent to our configured AI provider to generate the requested reading, translation, or explanation.

Community Library Sharing

Readings are private by default. If you choose to share a reading to the Community Library, that reading and its basic metadata, such as title, topic, target language, level, word count, and public status, become visible to other learners. You can remove a shared reading from the Community Library later. Private readings are not shown to other learners unless you choose to share them.

Payment Information

If you subscribe to premium services, payment and billing are handled through Stripe-hosted Checkout, Link, Stripe Managed Payments, and the Stripe Customer Portal. Stripe may act as merchant of record where applicable. MyFluentFox does not directly collect or store your full payment card details. We may store subscription information such as your Stripe customer ID, subscription ID, subscription status, billing period, cancellation status, and latest invoice reference so we can provide paid access and support billing questions.

Technical and Device Information

When you access the Service, we may automatically collect technical information such as:

  • Your Internet Protocol (IP) address.
  • Browser type and version.
  • Device type and operating system.
  • Date and time of access.
  • Pages visited on our Service and related diagnostic events.

This information is used to maintain security, troubleshoot issues, monitor reliability, and improve the Service.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to support sign-in, session management, security, and core site functionality. For more detail, please refer to our Cookie Policy.

Narration and Pronunciation Audio

When you use narration or pronunciation features, full reading text or selected words and phrases are sent to our backend service, which uses Microsoft Azure Text to Speech to generate audio. To improve performance and reduce repeated provider calls, generated audio may be cached in Azure Blob Storage for repeat playback. The cached audio is tied to the reading text, selected text, language, and voice used to create it.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information described above to:

  • Provide reading generation, word help, phrase help, narration, vocabulary tracking, and progress features.
  • Keep readings, vocabulary, and stats scoped to your active learning language.
  • Manage launch waitlist interest and contact you about launch access if you opted in.
  • Operate the Community Library when you choose to share a reading publicly.
  • Protect the Service, troubleshoot errors, investigate abuse, and improve reliability.
  • Respond to support, privacy, billing, or account requests.

3. Service Providers

We rely on trusted service providers to operate MyFluentFox, including Microsoft Azure for hosting, authentication, databases, storage, AI processing, and text-to-speech, and Stripe for hosted payment, billing, managed payment, tax, invoice, fraud prevention, and customer portal services. These providers process information only as needed to provide their services.

4. Your Choices

  • You can update your learning languages, help language, and level from Learning Settings.
  • You can save vocabulary, mark terms as known or unknown, and remove saved terms from your review queue.
  • You can choose whether an owned reading is private or shared to the Community Library.
  • You can contact us to remove your email from the launch waitlist.
  • You can contact us to request account or data deletion.
  • You can contact us to request an export of the account data MyFluentFox controls.

5. Data Retention

We keep account, reading, vocabulary, and progress data while your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and maintain security. Shared readings remain available in the Community Library until you remove them, we remove them, or your account data is deleted. Cached audio and technical logs may be retained for operational reliability and then removed under normal retention processes.

6. Children

MyFluentFox is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has provided personal information to us, please contact us so we can review and remove it where appropriate.
